Tools for Project Development

Services for renewable energy companies

In 2020, we developed a product in collaboration with Finnish wind power operators to help visualize wind farms. Our solution is a photorealistic 3D model placed into a real landscape. A video created in an authentic landscape provides a realistic picture of the project, making it easier to present to local residents and, in the best case, shortening the project development time.

Since then, we have developed various products to meet the needs of the industry and continue to expand our offerings. We currently provide photo simulations, interactive 360-degree videos, and photorealistic 3D-modeled animations for wind energy projects and photovoltaic (PV) solar farms. All our products are created in photorealistic manner, using real landscapes.

The Value of Investing in High-Quality Video Modeling

High-quality video modeling is an investment with a return you can almost calculate:

  • A video provides local residents with the most accurate possible impression of how the project will impact the landscape—and, in the best case, helps eliminate misconceptions about changes to the views.
  • When people form their own, often inaccurate, mental image of a project’s effects, it can hinder acceptance and complicate discussions.
  • A realistic video improves cooperation with stakeholders, increases transparency, shortens project development time, and enhances the chances of the project being realized—ultimately paying for itself.
  • In addition, video strengthens credible brand marketing.

Ideal Uses for Modeling

Realistic modeling is suitable for:

  • Attachments to official reports
  • General landscape impact assessments and illustrating the effects of visual obstructions
  • Display information at events on screens or through VR headsets
  • Publication on the project’s website
  • For project marketing when seeking potential buyers or enhancing the project’s brand

Products for Different Stages of Project Development

Stage 1: Photo simulations

Photo simulations are ideal as an attachment to an official report to demonstrate the visual impact in the area. We create our photo simulations from 50 mm photographs, which correspond to what the human eye naturally sees. The images are produced using the same technology as in our video production, ensuring the correct placement of turbines, including their elevation.

Stage 2: Video simulation

A video simulation can also account for visual obstructions when assessing landscape impact. In many cases, wind farms or solar panel fields are visible only briefly from behind visual obstructions, and this can be best illustrated with our video simulation. We have produced a wide range of modeling solutions to make project presentations easier, for example, different layout options, power lines, and even a boater’s perspective from the middle of a lake can be visualized through video.

Stage 3: 360 video simulation with VR headsets

This product is a modern option for presenting a project at public events where you want to give the audience a complete view of the project’s landscape impact. The video also shows any surrounding projects, and we can model future developments as well to help visualize the overall picture.

Q&A

  • What kind of projects can we model?

Thanks to our professional team, anything is possible, but our core expertise lies in modeling wind farms and solar parks. We have solved many of our clients’ challenges, for example, by modeling power lines, different layout options, and hybrid parks.

  • What kind of video should be produced for the project?

Your needs, such as filming location, surrounding projects, and different layout options, will determine the most suitable product for you. Our professionals will prepare a filming plan on your behalf and present it to you before production begins. We can create the filming plan by using only a viewshed analysis and a project map.

  • Our layout is not final – how should we proceed?

Layout changes are very common in this industry, which is why we design our products so they can be easily modified once the final layout begins to take shape. We can also model different layout options within the same video.

If needed, we can film at the location during better weather conditions, and the modeling process will begin once we have received the final layout.

  • How long does the modeling take?

The actual modeling takes approximately 2–3 weeks from receiving the layout, but we recommend booking the project area modeling well in advance, as our production proceeds in the order reservations are made.

  • We’re busy, what do you need from us?

To prepare the filming plan, we need a viewshed analysis and a map of the project area. We only require a small amount of your time to review and approve the filming plan. For the modeling process, we also need the turbine locations as a shapefile and the turbine dimensions.

  • How do I get the most out of a 360 video?

The 360-videos are often used in situations when there are other upcoming projects or already completed wind farms nearby. You get the most out of them by presenting the video with VR headsets. We can assist you in acquiring VR headsets, and if needed, you can also rent them through us.
