Case VSB Uusiutuva Energia:

Huuru Media’s videos support transparency in wind power projects – case VSB Renewable Energy Finland

VSB Finland has utilized 3D-modeled videos in the permitting and early stages of wind power projects. As the projects have progressed, documentary videos have been produced to showcase the construction process. VSB’s goal is to communicate openly and realistically about what is being done, thereby fostering interaction with stakeholders.

3D-modeled videos make the impact of planned projects tangible

Wind power projects attract strong interest in local communities, and building trust requires concrete and understandable communication methods. To this end, VSB uses 3D-modeled videos in which realistically modeled wind turbines are placed into the actual project landscape. These videos are used in various stakeholder events and communications with residents, landowners, and authorities.

Highly realistic and visual 3D models are an effective tool for promoting wind power and ensuring open communication. Concrete videos make stakeholder cooperation easier. The models make it simple to show exactly what is being planned, what the turbines will look like in the landscape, and where they will be visible from,” says Seppo Tallgren, CEO of VSB Renewable Energy Finland Ltd.

Our principle is to invest in communication throughout the entire project. When things are discussed openly and the impacts are shown accurately, it helps and benefits future permitting processes. This prevents situations later where people say they didn’t know or understand the effects of the projects,” Tallgren adds.

We wanted the planned turbines to be as visible as possible, as the environmental impact assessment is also based on a “worst case” view.

Construction site videos communicate project progress

VSB has also used videos to show, in a concrete way, what is happening on the construction site. For example, in the Juurakko and Karhakka projects, Huuru Media has filmed the construction process from foundation work to the point when the turbines became operational. These have been compiled into videos suitable for different project stages.

– Large projects like this are of interest to stakeholders and local residents alike, and videos are an easy way to show them how the project is progressing. Videos also promote general acceptance, says Tallgren.

Smooth cooperation with Huuru Media

– A couple of years ago, I spoke with Pekka Seppälä from Huuru Media about wind power. I brought up the need for high-quality 3D modeling for wind power, which I hadn’t seen before. We discussed the idea together, and Pekka started developing a modeling service to meet the needs of the industry, Tallgren recalls.

– Working with Huuru Media has gone very well. They have listened to what we want and contributed their own professional perspective to the implementation.

– In addition to communications related to our projects, we have also used them for other company and personnel-related communications, such as staff interviews about our values and other themes, Tallgren concludes.
